New Result from KEK on SCRF cavities 23 November 2005

Below is a new result from Kenji Saito at KEK on their ICHIRO single cell cavity tests. This is encouraging progress in our program to develop high gradient cavities for ILC.

from Kenji Saito:
Dear all,

Here, we are very glad to send you a good news with ICHIRO single cell cavity. As you know after the Japanese ILC review committee in end of last July, WG5-Asia is concentrating on confirmation of our recipe by single cell cavity study.

The recipe is: CBP (centrifugal barrel polishing)+light CP (10microns)+Annealing (750 degree for 3hr)+EP (80microns)+HPR with ultrapure water+120 degree Bake for 48hr, which is recomended as ACD with ILC preparation.

Yesterday, we got 45MV/m by the first test of an ICHIRO single cell cavity. We have made the principle demonstration that our recipe can produce such a high gradient without any additional treatment.

The attached result is for the IS-4, which was cut from an EBW failed 6-cell cavity during ICHIRO 9-cell cavity fabrication in last April.

Best regards,
Kenji
